      A very important part of my job has been to train the next generation how to do the job I do now. This means that future generations should be even better looked after than I can do it now, because they will have the benefit of great improvements in science.

      Another part of my job has been to design and develop equipment and systems to provide safe water effectively to communities. Check out my profile for some of the details on the Tara handpump and the design system for piped supplies in desert communities.

      For me I work with rivers, and rivers are key to a lot of things in the future. They supply us with water, provide places to enjoy, flood us sometimes and are great for wildlife.

      So I can help as an engineer to improve all these things in the future.

      My job is about improving water quality in rivers and the sea so you don’t get ill form swimming or eating shellfish. The other aspect is generating renewable energy from waste, which I think will help secure our energy future.

      The plan is that when I design ships (or parts of them indeed) I make them better, safer and more comfortable. These ships are more friendly to the environment and will reduce the deaths at sea or save someone from an injury.
