@ryan: No. However, if you’d have asked if anyone in my family had been an engineer, I would have said yes – my mother’s father who was born in 1873 and who did lots of very interesting things in his life. He was the city engineer for Shanghai (China) for ten years probably around the Boxer Rebellion. He designed a rotary internal combustion engine. He built his own radio receiver for the first broadcasts (they call them crystal sets today and can only receive AM transmissions). He built his own car engine in about 1892. So, you see that I have a lot to live up to !

Not in my family – my dad is a lecturer at a University (teaches economics) and my mother is a secretary in a hospital.

I’m the first one. I wonder if my daughter will be an engineer?
