      Sadly, this piece of software doesn’t allow for me to write out the equation and explain it. What I can suggest, however, is for you to Google “Manning’s equation + Wikipedia” and read, mark, learn and inwardly digest (as my physics teacher used to say !) the equation and how it operates.

      Actually, it was Jed who talked about Manning’s equation because it is brilliant for determining channel flow (or flow in rivers like the Isis, Thames and the like). I, on the other hand, did a lot of calculations of water in pipes so I used a different equation which is the Hazen-Williams equation. Check it with Google as well.
